Best screen recorders for Windows
The best screen recorders for Windows 10 and 11, sorted by what each is best at: finished videos, free raw capture, quick links, full editing and built-in tools.
Updated · By the Sceed team
The best screen recorder for Windows depends on what happens after you press Stop. For a finished-looking video with zooms and a smooth cursor, use Sceed. For free raw capture or streaming, use OBS Studio. For a quick link to send, use Loom. For a clip without installing anything, use the Snipping Tool or Xbox Game Bar built into Windows.
Who wrote this. This list is published by the makers of Sceed, so Sceed is on it and comes first. Facts about the other tools come from their public pages, checked September 2026, and each links to a row-by-row comparison. If something is wrong, tell us at hello@sceed.io and we will correct it.
How to choose
Start from the result you need. A file that looks edited needs a recorder with an editor. A link in a chat needs a cloud recorder. A raw capture to cut elsewhere, or a live stream, needs a capture tool.
Then check three things: whether it records what you need (a window, an area, system sound, a webcam), where the recording is stored (your disk or someone’s cloud), and what the free version leaves out.

Questions
What is the best free screen recorder for Windows?
OBS Studio is the most capable free recorder and has no limits or watermark, but it has no editor. Sceed’s free plan includes the editor, with exports up to three minutes and a small mark. Windows’ own Snipping Tool and Game Bar are free and already installed.
Does Windows have a built-in screen recorder?
Yes. Windows 11 has screen recording in the Snipping Tool (Win + Shift + R), and Windows 10 and 11 both have Xbox Game Bar (Win + Alt + R), which records one app window.
Which screen recorder is best for tutorials?
One with zooms, a visible cursor and clear audio. Sceed and Camtasia both edit in the same app; Sceed is quicker to a polished result, Camtasia has the deeper general editor.
