What is a global hotkey?

Also called: keyboard shortcut, recording shortcut

Definition

A global hotkey is a keyboard shortcut that works no matter which app is in focus, for example to start or stop a recording.

Starting a recording with a hotkey means the recorder’s own window never appears in the video, and the first frame is the app you meant to show.

Recorders usually offer at least two: one to start and stop, and one to pause. Pick combinations that the app you are recording does not use, or the keypress will reach both.

In Sceed

In Sceed, Ctrl + Alt + R starts and stops a recording and Ctrl + Alt + P pauses it. Both can be changed in Settings.
