How to make screen recordings look professional
Twelve changes that make a screen recording look produced: before you record, while you record, and in the edit. No video editing background needed.

Professional-looking screen recordings share a few traits: a tidy screen, a steady cursor, zooms on what matters, a frame and background, clean sound, and tight cuts. Most of that is editing. A recorder like Sceed applies the frame, background and cursor smoothing by default, which leaves zooms and cuts to add by hand.
Before you record
Clean the screen. One app, no clutter. Hide desktop icons, bookmarks and extra tabs.
Silence the machine. Do not disturb on. Chat and mail closed.
Use demo data. Believable names and numbers, nothing private.
Make text big enough. Browser zoom at 110% to 125%. Editor font up a size or two.
Match the shape. A 16:9 window for a 16:9 video.
While you record
Move with purpose. Go to the thing, stop, click. No circling.
Slow down. You know where everything is. The viewer does not.
Check the microphone. Three seconds of test saves a re-record.
Pause after mistakes. Then say the line again. Silence is easy to cut.
In the edit
[Smooth the cursor](/guides/how-to-smooth-cursor-in-screen-recording). A gliding pointer is the single largest difference between raw and produced.
[Zoom](/guides/how-to-zoom-in-on-a-screen-recording) on detail. Then zoom back out.
[Frame it](/guides/how-to-add-background-to-screen-recording). Padding, rounded corners, a shadow, a background.
[Cut hard](/guides/how-to-trim-and-cut-a-screen-recording). If it is not a step, it goes.
Point at results. A callout, a pop-out or a spotlight where the proof appears.
[Hide what is private](/guides/how-to-blur-sensitive-information-in-screen-recording). Blur it properly.
Open and close. A title card at the start, a next step at the end.
Keep a house style
One background, one frame, one cursor, one camera position, used on every video. Viewers stop noticing the packaging and start recognising it. In Sceed that is a saved look: a small file with the whole style, set as the default for new recordings.
What does not matter as much as you think
An expensive microphone. A headset close to your mouth beats a studio microphone across the room.
Animated intros. Three seconds of logo is three seconds before the viewer learns anything.
Music. Under a voice it is usually a distraction.

Questions
Why do my screen recordings look amateur?
Usually four things: a shaky cursor, no zoom so details are tiny, a full cluttered desktop, and no cuts. Fixing those four changes the whole feel.
Do I need a video editor to polish a screen recording?
You need some editing, not necessarily a general video editor. A screen recorder with its own editor, such as Sceed, covers cursor, zooms, frames, cuts and export.
What resolution should I export?
The resolution you recorded at, up to 4K. Upload the highest quality the destination accepts.
